Don't miss the first ever SBA Small Business Outreach Tour, coming to a community near you now! As a small business owner, if you are looking for tools to take your business to the next level, get connected to experts, get inspired by others' success, and get informed on local development resources, attend one of the Outreach Tour sessions being held around the state. The tour begins on August 10, 2011 in Mt. Pleasant and ends September 30th in Detroit. Inbetween, the half day sessions visit fifteen communities around the state. Join the Michigan Economic Developers Association (MEDA) at their annual meeting this year at Shanty Creek Resort near Bellaire, Michigan. The conference begins with registration and a reception on Wednesday, August 24th and runs through Friday, August 26th. Conference activities will take place at the Lakeview Hotel and Conference Center at Shanty Creek’s Summit village. In a typical year, the educational content of MEDA’s Annual Meeting provides updates on some economic development programs and a few sessions on new programs. This is not a typical year. The economic development slate was wiped clean, re-thought and re-envisioned, leaving much to learn for even the most experienced of practitioners. In addition to learning new ways to attract and retain businesses in Michigan, economic developers are collaborating with neighboring communities like never before. The state is heading important changes in regulatory processes while many communities are leading their own permitting process simplification.
